Nigerian Army Detains Brigadier General Over Alleged Links to Retired General Ali-Keffi

The Nigerian Army has arrested Brigadier General Gabriel E. Archibong over alleged associations with retired Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi, sources say. Archibong, stationed at the Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Minna, has been held at the Army’s Special Investigation Bureau for over ten days. Soldiers reportedly searched his home in Lugbe, seizing his phones and laptop, though no incriminating evidence was found.

The arrest is believed to be linked to Ali-Keffi’s ongoing legal and public confrontation with former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd.). Ali-Keffi, who led the covert Operation Service Wide (OSW) tasked with investigating terrorist financiers, had previously alleged that suspects under military custody were released under suspicious circumstances, implicating top military officers and government officials.

Archibong’s detention has sparked concern within military circles, with sources warning it could negatively impact his career. Ali-Keffi has also filed a multi-billion-naira lawsuit against the Nigerian Army and top military officials, challenging his arrest, detention, and forced retirement, while seeking full restitution of his entitlements.

Ali-Keffi maintains that the Army’s actions against him and his associates reflect retaliation for exposing terror financing networks linked to senior military and government figures.
