Nigerian Army Seizes 108kg of Cannabis, Arrests Suspect in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have intercepted 108.8 kilograms of cannabis and arrested a major courier along the Kabba–Obajana road, targeting a shipment from Ekiti State to Kogi.

The Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, confirmed the seizure in a statement issued Tuesday in Lokoja.

“The troops of 12 Brigade Nigerian Army have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against banditry and drug trafficking in Kogi, intercepting a major consignment of Cannabis sativa worth a substantial amount from Ekiti State to Obajana,” he said.

According to Abdullahi, the operation occurred on Monday when soldiers deployed to the Agbede Response Area conducted a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry (registration number DKA 158AU).

“The vehicle, driven by the suspect, was also found with a branded police hat and belt displayed on the dashboard, raising further suspicion,” he added.

A thorough search revealed 10 sacks of cannabis concealed in the car, totaling 108.8 kg. The army noted that large-scale drug movements like this not only finance criminal networks but also fuel banditry in Kogi and neighbouring states.

The suspect and the recovered drugs have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi Command, for further investigation and prosecution.

Lt. Abdullahi reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to combating drug trafficking, curbing the factors that enable banditry, and ensuring public safety and security across the state.
