Nigerian Breweries Plc (NB) has reiterated its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions across all its production operations nationwide by the year 2030.
The company’s Corporate Affairs Director, Mr. Uzodinma Odenigbo, disclosed this during a recent media parley, where he highlighted the brewer’s ongoing investments in renewable energy and sustainability initiatives under its “Brew a Better World” strategy.
According to Odenigbo, Nigerian Breweries has made significant investments in renewable energy solutions, including biomass, solar power, and energy efficiency projects, aimed at reducing its carbon footprint across all brewery locations.
“As a company, we are advancing sustainability outcomes through our Brew a Better World initiatives. Over the past few years, we have made notable investments in renewable energy as part of our transition toward net-zero operations that many people are unaware of. We are also signing power purchase agreements to further reduce our national carbon footprint and progress toward our long-term net-zero ambition,” he stated.
He revealed that the company has signed multiple power purchase agreements with renewable energy firms and invested over ₦2.5 billion in support of its carbon reduction initiatives.
Beyond carbon reduction, Nigerian Breweries has also committed considerable resources to water replenishment projects in water-stressed regions. Odenigbo noted the company’s contribution to the Olokomeji Reforestation Initiative in Ogun State, where more than 300,000 trees have been planted through strategic partnerships to restore local watersheds.
In addition, the company continues to invest in community empowerment and sustainable livelihoods, channeling over ₦200 million into skill acquisition programmes and establishing new facilities such as a cassava milling plant in Kaduna and another in Awo-Omamma, Imo State.
Odenigbo also highlighted Nigerian Breweries’ collaboration with other members of the Beer Sectoral Group (BSG) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to promote responsible alcohol consumption among commercial drivers. The annual advocacy campaign is expected to reach more than 1,000 drivers by December 2025.
Reaffirming the company’s dedication to environmental sustainability and responsible production practices, he emphasized the importance of NB’s long-standing investment in reusable glass packaging, which enhances packaging circularity and aligns with global best practices.
“We remain committed to empowering our host communities, protecting the environment, and ensuring our operations contribute positively to Nigeria’s sustainable development goals,” Odenigbo concluded.
