The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has recently received 350 National Identity Number (NIN) enrollment devices aimed at enhancing the country’s digital inclusion efforts.

The handover ceremony took place at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, where the Postmaster General and CEO of NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, received the devices from a delegation of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), led by Country Director Eunsub Kim.

Significance of the Donation

  • Digital Inclusion: The donated devices are expected to strengthen NIPOST’s capacity to provide accessible NIN registration services, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
  • Support for Government Goals: The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s efforts to expand access to essential public services, supporting the Federal Government’s drive to increase national digital inclusion.

Tola Odeyemi, the Postmaster General of NIPOST, expressed gratitude for the support provided by KOICA and the government of South Korea, noting that the devices would significantly enhance NIPOST’s role in advancing digital identity enrollment across the country.

KOICA’s Contribution to Digital Transformation

On his part, Eunsub Kim commended NIPOST’s contribution to the country’s digital development. He emphasized that the support is part of an ongoing project known as ‘Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria’.

Kim also shared that the devices come with pre-installed enrollment software, as well as comprehensive training and deployment support, ensuring that the devices are quickly integrated into NIPOST’s operations.

Strategic Importance

  • Wide National Presence: NIPOST’s extensive network across Nigeria positions it as a key player in the national push for digital transformation. With these new devices, NIPOST is better equipped to handle digital identity enrollment in a manner that reaches every corner of the country, furthering Nigeria’s digital inclusion goals.

This collaboration between NIPOST and KOICA is part of the ongoing global partnership to empower Nigeria through digital services, marking a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward a more inclusive and digitally connected future.
