Nitin Nabin Set to File Nomination for BJP National President Ahead of Tuesday Election

New Delhi, January 19, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing to elect its new National President on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, and the nomination process is scheduled to take place today at the BJP headquarters in Delhi.

According to reports, candidates can submit their nominations between 2 PM and 4 PM, followed by a scrutiny and withdrawal period from 5 PM to 6 PM. At 6:30 PM, the BJP’s national election officer will issue an official statement regarding the nomination process and election proceedings.

Nitin Nabin Likely to Be Sole Candidate

Nitin Nabin, the party’s current working president, is expected to file his nomination today to succeed Union Health Minister JP Nadda. With the backing of key party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Nabin is anticipated to be elected unopposed as the BJP’s 12th national president.

If the nomination process proceeds smoothly, Nabin will officially assume charge as the youngest national president in BJP history, marking a significant generational shift in the party’s leadership.

Election Procedure

The BJP’s national president is elected by an electoral college comprising representatives from the party’s national council and various state councils. Under the party constitution, any candidate must be proposed jointly by at least 20 members of a state’s electoral college and have a minimum of 15 years of BJP membership.

Once nominations are filed and scrutinized, the electoral college will finalize the election. If there are no opposing candidates, as is expected in Nitin Nabin’s case, he will be elected unopposed.

Background

Nitin Nabin has served as the working president of the BJP, coordinating party activities and strategy ahead of national and state-level elections. His elevation to the role of national president is widely seen as part of the BJP’s effort to promote younger leadership while maintaining continuity in party policies and organizational priorities.

With the strong support of the party’s top leadership, Nitin Nabin’s election is being viewed as a smooth and largely ceremonial process, ensuring a stable transition ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

The party’s decision is expected to be formally announced following the completion of the nomination scrutiny later today.
