Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have begun gathering at the NLC Secretariat in Abuja to stage a nationwide protest over the country’s worsening security situation.
NLC President Joe Ajaero was among the leaders present, alongside representatives of labour unions and civil society organisations.
Also participating in solidarity was Omoyele Sowore and members of the Revolution Now Movement, who condemned the government’s handling of the security crisis.
Speaking to journalists, Sowore described the situation as dire:
“The country is bleeding, and the bleeding must stop immediately. Nigeria’s leadership has failed to protect citizens. People are being kidnapped from places of worship, and over 250 children remain in captivity in Niger State. Even our soldiers and air force members have been captured by Burkina Faso. Everything seems to have broken down irretrievably.”
Authorities have deployed security personnel to the area, including officers from the Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, and DSS, to maintain order during the demonstration.
The protest underscores growing public frustration with escalating insecurity and the perceived inability of the federal government to protect Nigerians.
