‘No Cure for Night Blindness’: BJP’s Sudhanshu Trivedi Slams Kharge Over Remarks on Bihar, Defends State’s Development

Published on: Nov 03, 2025 | New Delhi

BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi on Monday launched a sharp attack on Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing him of using “objectionable language” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dismissing the opposition’s criticism of Bihar’s development under the NDA.

Earlier in the day, Kharge had referred to PM Modi as “jhooton ke sardar” (leader of liars) at a press conference in Patna, triggering strong reactions from the BJP.

Trivedi’s Counterattack

Addressing reporters, Trivedi defended the NDA government’s record in Bihar, presenting figures to highlight the state’s progress:

“Under NDA rule, Bihar’s per capita income increased from ₹6,900 to ₹67,000. The GSDP grew from ₹23,000 crore to ₹3.17 lakh crore. Electricity coverage rose from 22% to 100%. I want to ask Kharge ji — are all these facts lies?”

He further accused Congress and the INDIA bloc of hypocrisy and inconsistency.

“In March 2013, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh praised Nitish Kumar’s developmental work, calling Bihar the fastest-growing state. Was that also a lie?” he said.

‘Those Suffering from Night Blindness Have No Cure’

In a pointed jibe, Trivedi said that opposition leaders “suffer from night blindness” because they “refuse to see Bihar’s visible progress.”

“Those suffering from night blindness have no cure. Anyone landing at Patna airport or driving through Bihar can clearly see the transformation,” he remarked.

The BJP leader highlighted major infrastructural and educational achievements in Bihar under the NDA, noting the presence of two AIIMS, multiple IITs, and plans for a medical college in every district.

Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhath’ Remark Draws Fire

Trivedi also lashed out at Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he insulted Bihar’s cultural pride by mocking the Chhath Puja festival.

“Rahul Gandhi called the sacred Chhath festival a ‘drama’. Chhathi Maiyya will teach them a lesson in this election,” Trivedi said.

He claimed that the people of Bihar would “reject certified liars charged with corruption” and instead back the “time-tested duo of Nitish Kumar and Narendra Modi.”

Political Context

The sharp exchange comes amid heightened tensions ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, where the INDIA bloc — led by Congress and RJD — is seeking to challenge the NDA’s dominance. Both alliances have intensified their rhetoric, turning Bihar’s development narrative into a major election battleground.

Trivedi’s “night blindness” remark has since gone viral on social media, drawing both criticism and praise, depending on political affiliations.
