Notorious Bandit Bello Turji Launches Deadly Attacks in Eastern Sokoto, Forcing Residents to Flee

Notorious bandits leader Bello Turji has carried out fresh violent attacks on several communities in eastern Sokoto State, beginning with a brutal raid on Tidibale village in Isa Local Government Area on Monday night.

According to SaharaReporters, Turji’s armed group stormed Tidibale in large numbers, forcing residents to abandon their homes and flee to neighbouring communities under the cover of darkness. A video obtained by the news outlet shows terrified villagers vacating their homes amid the chaos.

A security alert issued by Bakatsine, a community-based security intelligence platform, confirmed the attacks and warned that they are part of a broader plan by Turji to assert control over the eastern axis of Sokoto State. Earlier raids on Bargaja village in Isa LGA appear to form part of a systematic campaign to dominate strategic rural settlements.

Despite repeated assurances from authorities, communities in Sokoto continue to endure attacks, abductions, and forced displacement by armed bandit groups operating across the state and neighbouring areas.

As villagers flee along major routes and bandits consolidate control over abandoned areas, questions are growing about the effectiveness of security forces. Observers are alarmed that entire communities are being turned into internal refugees while armed groups roam with impunity.

As of now, the Sokoto State Government and security agencies have not released official statements on the recent attacks.
