The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has officially handed over the remaining 130 kidnapped students and teachers of St Mary’s Catholic School to Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago.
This follows the earlier handover of 100 students on December 8, 2025. The ceremony took place at the Government House in Minna, with Ribadu represented by Maj. General Adamu Garba Laka, National Coordinator of the Center for Counter Terrorism, Abuja.
Maj. Gen. Laka explained that the rescue mission was successful thanks to the coordinated efforts of multiple security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, the police, and the Department of State Services (DSS).
“The rescue of the remaining kidnapped students and teachers followed the directive of President Bola Tinubu and was coordinated by the Office of the NSA. This landmark achievement was made possible with the support of the Nigerian Police, the 2nd Division of the Nigerian Army, and the DSS,” he said.
He also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens, reopening schools in high-risk areas, and involving community leaders in security measures.
Governor Bago thanked the President, the NSA, and all involved security agencies for ensuring the safe return of all the kidnapped students and teachers.
“We thank God for the mercies shown to us. Seeing them here, you realize the torment they endured. It is unprecedented to have everyone safely reunited with their families,” Bago said.
