NSITF Workers Raise Alarm Over Career Stagnation, Alleged Mismanagement

Staff of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) have raised concerns over prolonged career stagnation, alleged abuse of office, and mismanagement under the leadership of Managing Director Seun Faleye.

In a letter obtained by SaharaReporters, more than 70 Assistant General Managers (AGMs), 30 Deputy General Managers (DGMs), and several Principal Managers described the situation as “unjustified and frustrating,” appealing to the NSITF Board, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the National Assembly for urgent intervention.

The workers claimed that despite hopes the new leadership would address longstanding stagnation, promotions have been repeatedly delayed. They alleged that Faleye engaged costly external consultants, including KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers, for tasks that could have been handled internally, wasting contributors’ funds.

Other grievances included:

  • Procurement and expenditures made without board approval.
  • Extension of contract appointments for retired associates, while qualified active staff remain stalled.
  • Alleged threats and salary stoppages for staff who failed to comply with contractor-managed platforms.
  • Union complicity in remaining silent due to incentives and foreign trips.

The staff warned that these issues have created an atmosphere of fear, stagnation, and hopelessness within the organisation.

Attempts to reach the NSITF Managing Director for comment were unsuccessful. However, a senior management source, speaking anonymously, acknowledged promotion delays but said the current administration inherited the problem from previous managements and is working to resolve it, stressing that civil service processes require patience.
