West Ham United manager Nuno Espirito Santo expressed his gratitude to the club’s fans after securing West Ham’s first home win of the 2025/26 Premier League season, a thrilling 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at the London Stadium.
Key Moments: Paqueta, Botman, and Soucek
West Ham fell behind early in the match, with Newcastle taking the lead in the opening minutes. However, a determined performance saw the Hammers turn the game around thanks to:
- Lucas Paqueta — scoring the equalizer with a composed finish
- Sven Botman — inadvertently scoring an own goal to give West Ham the lead
- Tomas Soucek — sealing the win with a late strike
The result brought relief to the fans, who had not yet witnessed a home victory this season, making the win even more significant for the club’s morale.
Espirito Santo Hails the Fans
After the match, Espirito Santo highlighted the crucial role played by the supporters:
“Our idea is to try and give something to our fans, and today we did give them a small thing. The way they gave us back was huge. The noise in the London Stadium was amazing, so we cannot thank them enough.”
He emphasized that the team’s goal is to transform the London Stadium into a formidable home venue, creating an atmosphere that challenges visiting opponents:
“Let’s try against Burnley to give them a little bit more so they can make more noise as we try to transform the London Stadium into a very hard place for our opponents.”
Team Resilience and Performance
Espirito Santo also praised his squad for their resilience under pressure, particularly in the second half when Newcastle mounted a strong challenge:
“Second half, we were against the ropes. But we were resilient enough to recognise that off the ball, it was difficult but not really trouble. There was no disorganisation because the team didn’t get desperate.”
He stressed that this resilience and off-the-ball work will be key for West Ham’s continued progress this season.
“How can we as a team show our fans that we want to fight, we want to change the situation, we want to make things tough for our opponents? The fans, I cannot thank them enough.”
Looking Ahead
With this victory, West Ham now looks to build momentum at home and continue their push up the Premier League table. Fans will be hoping for similar performances in the upcoming match against Burnley, where Espirito Santo aims to further solidify the London Stadium as a fortress.
