The deceased has been identified as Uma Shankar Sabat, a resident of Berhampur. He was among passengers travelling on a vessel that carried 50 people, a bus, and two cars, moving from Satapada to Jahnikuda. The vessel reportedly became stranded for several hours because of dense fog, leading to the fatal accident. Police confirmed that poor visibility was a key factor in the mishap.
