The Ogun State House of Assembly has instructed the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) to immediately address the problem of indiscriminate vehicle parking beneath the Kuto Flyover in Abeokuta. The directive aims to enforce traffic regulations, improve public safety, and ease traffic flow around the Kuto Roundabout.
The directive was issued by the Assembly’s Committee on Finance and Appropriations, chaired by Musefiu Lamidi, during the ongoing 2026 budget defence with the Ministry of Transportation at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan.
Lamidi noted that persistent gridlock at the location is partly caused by driving against traffic and the uncontrolled loading and offloading of passengers by commercial vehicles.
The committee also emphasized that the development of Gateway Airport should align with the state’s economic agenda to boost investment, connectivity, and revenue generation.
Defending the ministry’s budget, Commissioner for Transportation Olugbenga Dairo highlighted plans to establish a state-owned airline alongside partnerships with ValueJet Airline. He also confirmed intentions to commence cargo flight operations and set up an aircraft maintenance and repair facility at Gateway Airport in the next fiscal year.
Heads of various agencies under the Ministry—including TRACE (acting commander Elias Omonayajo), Gateway Airport (Dapo Olumide), and the Vehicle Inspection Office (Ademeyin Olugboyega)—appeared before the committee to defend their 2026 budgets. Other agencies, including the Ministries of Community Development, Rural Development, and the State House of Assembly, also presented their proposals.
