Ogun Assembly Speaker Urges Dangote Cement to Adopt Eco-Friendly Practices, Construct Trailer Parks

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has called on Dangote Cement’s Ibese Plant to address the indiscriminate parking of trucks on major roads in Yewa North Local Government Area.

Speaking during the company’s 4th annual Community Day in Ibese, Elemide urged the company to construct trailer parks to prevent accidents, ease traffic, and promote environmental friendliness. “With all the land, money, and profits Dangote is making, can’t they have a trailer park?” he asked, stressing that the company should be a blessing, not a disturbance, to the state.

While commending Dangote Cement for providing employment opportunities and reducing the “Japa syndrome” affecting Nigeria, the Speaker emphasized the need for sustainable development and environmentally conscious operations.

In response, Dangote Cement’s Head of Social Performance, Ademola Ojolowo, confirmed that a trailer park is already under construction and highlighted ongoing commitments to community development, including 10 completed projects this year and 13 others in progress.

Officials, including the Commissioner for Community Development, Ademola Balogun, and Yewa North Local Government Chairman, Olusola Akinbode, encouraged the company to continue growing its infrastructure investments and called on host communities to fully utilize empowerment programs. The Aboro of Ibeseland, Oba Rotimi Mulero, also requested better alignment of job placements with the qualifications of community members.
