Ogun Court Denies Bail to Hip-Hop Singer Portable

An Ogun State High Court in Ota has refused bail to controversial hip-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, following his arraignment on multiple criminal charges.

Portable faces a nine-count charge including assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. The trial judge said bail could not be granted because the police officer allegedly assaulted during the incident was not present, stressing that the officer’s testimony is crucial for a decision. The matter has been adjourned to January 19 for further hearing on the bail application.

The charges stem from a New Year’s Day incident at Portable’s bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Ogun State. According to police, Portable allegedly attacked his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, police officers, and other individuals at the scene. He is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 worth N12 million, reportedly registered under Wally Dex Auto.

During proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi testified for the prosecution, while Ashabi herself was absent. Police further alleged that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, during the incident.
