Old Tweets Spark Outrage as Paystack Suspends Co-Founder Ezra Olubi

Paystack has suspended its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a subordinate, as well as the resurfacing of old, sexually explicit tweets.

In a statement issued to TechCabal, the Stripe-owned fintech confirmed that it has launched a formal investigation into the accusations.

Paystack Confirms Suspension, Opens Investigation

“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi,” the company said.
“We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.”

The company added that it would not comment further until the inquiry concludes, citing the need to protect the integrity of the process and the individuals involved.

Resurfaced Tweets Fuel Public Outrage

Public backlash intensified after several posts from Olubi’s now-deactivated X account resurfaced online, dated between 2009 and 2013. The tweets included:

  • Graphic sexual comments about colleagues
  • A remark about wanting to photograph a coworker’s thighs
  • Disturbing references involving minors

One widely circulated tweet from 2011 read:
“Monday will be more fun with an ‘a’ in it. Touch a coworker today. Inappropriately.”

The rediscovered posts triggered widespread calls for accountability, with many users expressing shock that the tweets were previously overlooked.

Social Media Account Deactivated

Shortly after the tweets went viral, checks showed that Olubi had deactivated his X account.

Paystack has not yet indicated a timeline for the completion of its investigation.
