Olivia Nicholls Aims for Further Success in 2026 Tennis Season

British doubles star Olivia Nicholls is determined to build on her achievements from 2025 as she kicks off the new tennis season in Australia. Nicholls, ranked 26th in the WTA doubles rankings, will represent Great Britain at the United Cup in Perth, followed by a tournament in Hobart, before the Australian Open 2026 begins on 12 January.

A Successful 2025 for Nicholls

In 2025, Nicholls enjoyed several highlights with her doubles partner Tereza Mihalikova:

  • Won the Berlin Open
  • Reached the final in Indian Wells
  • Advanced to the third round at the French Open

Despite her success on clay and hard courts, the 31-year-old says grass remains her favourite surface. Her performances last year also helped her achieve a career-high WTA doubles ranking of 23.

Building a Strong Partnership with Mihalikova

Nicholls first teamed up with Mihalikova in 2024, and the duo has developed a strong on-court and off-court relationship. Nicholls emphasizes the importance of having both:

“Not only is she a great partner on court, but we get along very well off the court too. I’m actually going to be a bridesmaid at her wedding, which shows how close we are. Having that balance makes life much easier on tour.”

She added that the supportive dynamic off the court—from hotel stays to long travels—plays a huge role in their performance:

“When you’re travelling so many weeks of the year, having a good support system off the court makes a massive difference. It impacts how you feel on the court as well.”

Family Support and Playing for Great Britain

Nicholls, originally from Norwich, will have her family cheering her on in Perth. Her aunt and uncle, who live in Australia, will be present to support her this year.

“Last year, Great Britain played Australia, so my uncle had split loyalties. This year, they’re in another group, so my family can fully support me.”

Goals for 2026 and British Women’s Tennis

Nicholls is also targeting continued involvement with Great Britain’s national team. She reached the Australian Open mixed doubles semi-finals in 2025 with Henry Patten and has previously represented GB in the Billie Jean King Cup semi-finals in 2022 and 2024.

She believes British women’s tennis is thriving:

“There are so many talented players—Emma Raducanu, Sonay Kartal, Katie Boulter, Fran Jones. Competition for spots is tough, which pushes everyone to work harder. I’m excited for 2026 and hope to be involved in more national team events.”

Looking Ahead

As Nicholls enters 2026, her focus remains on improving every aspect of her game, strengthening partnerships, and contributing to Great Britain’s success in international competitions. Her combination of experience, dedication, and teamwork sets her up as one of British tennis’s standout doubles players heading into the Australian season.
