Ondo Deep Sea Port to Boost Trade in Nigeria, West Africa — Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has highlighted the strategic importance of the proposed Ondo Deep Sea Port, describing it as a major hub for international trade that will benefit not only Ondo State but also Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries.

The governor made the remarks after receiving the revalidated licence for the project from the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Chief Adegboyega Oyetola. He affirmed that the state government is fully prepared to commence construction, noting that the port will serve as critical infrastructure and position Ondo as a gateway for global business and maritime activities.

Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that the port is designed to support industries, commerce, and economic growth, with facilities capable of handling businesses across Nigeria and the West African sub-region. The port’s natural draught of 18 metres will allow very large vessels—larger than those currently accommodated in Lagos ports—to berth directly, eliminating the need for trans-shipment.

He further stated that the project would have extensive economic benefits, attracting investors, financial institutions, and service providers, while boosting hospitality and other related sectors in the state.

The governor expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for fast-tracking the licence revalidation, calling it a key milestone toward the realisation of the long-awaited deep sea port.
