Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has pledged to bring to justice those responsible for the attack and bombing of the Ipele Divisional Police Station in Owo Local Government Area.
According to reports, the assault was carried out by suspected terrorists aiming to free colleagues who had been detained at the station. About 30 armed men on motorcycles carried out the attack on New Year’s Eve.
In response, Governor Aiyedatiwa has convened an emergency security council meeting in Akure, the state capital. Both the State Police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 17, Ajani Omolabi, visited the site to assess the situation.
Through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor ordered all security agencies in the state to remain on red alert to prevent further incidents.
“Security agencies responded quickly, forcing the assailants to flee,” Sowore stated. “Their coordinated efforts have brought the situation under control and minimized damage.”
A government assessment confirmed that only the police station was affected. No churches were attacked, and there were no casualties. Calm has returned to the community, and security forces are actively pursuing the perpetrators.
Sowore emphasized that the Ondo State Government reassures residents of their safety and urges them to remain calm while authorities work to apprehend those responsible.
