Ondo Governor’s Media Aide Accuses Infrastructure, Finance Commissioners of Undermining Administration

Taiwo Ilesanmi Gbamila, Senior Special Assistant on Multimedia to Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has accused the Commissioners for Infrastructure and Finance of deliberately sabotaging the governor’s media team, in what he described as efforts to embarrass the administration publicly.

Gbamila made the allegations following remarks attributed to Infrastructure Commissioner Engr. Abiola Olawoye at an APC stakeholders’ meeting on Friday at The Dome, Akure, where Olawoye reportedly claimed that the governor’s media aides were “doing nothing.”

Reacting, Gbamila questioned why the media team was being targeted. “What exactly did the media of Governor Aiyedatiwa collect from you? Are they owing you money?” he asked, stressing that neither he nor other media aides had benefited financially from Olawoye’s ministry.

He explained that months earlier, the Chief Press Secretary had set up a committee of media aides, chaired by him, to highlight the governor’s projects and achievements—a task that required cooperation from the Ministry of Works. However, Gbamila alleged that all attempts to engage Olawoye were frustrated, including unanswered calls and a canceled October meeting.

He further accused Olawoye of instructing contractors to deny the media access to project sites without his approval. “At several locations, contractors told us we were not allowed to cover projects unless we got approval from him,” Gbamila said. Despite this, he continued the work, partially funding the media tour himself, with assistance from the Governor’s Special Assistant on Forestry (South), Hon. Bidemi Obayangan, and other officials such as the Chief of Protocol.

Gbamila also accused Finance Commissioner Mrs. Omowumi Isaac of withholding funds intended for public awareness and media engagements for months, saying the media team “suffered in silence” to avoid destabilizing the government and party. “Last year, the Finance Commissioner stopped money for public awareness for six months. This December makes it three months again. Nobody talked,” he said.

Warning of potential political consequences, Gbamila stressed that the media’s role is to protect the governor and prevent his achievements from being undermined. He said he refrained from confronting Olawoye physically at the APC meeting out of respect for the governor but condemned the commissioner’s comments as reckless and provocative.

Gbamila added that he was prepared to face any fallout, including dismissal or legal action. “If this will end my appointment, I will thank God. I will go to church and give thanks,” he said, emphasizing that he would not remain silent while his integrity was attacked.

He concluded by calling on the commissioners to “fear God” and cease actions that undermine the governor’s media team, warning that continued suppression of the media would not end well.
