Osun Council Chairmen Submit 2026 Budget Proposals for Legislative Approval

In a move aimed at promoting transparency in local government finances, the Chairman of Irepodun Local Government, Barr. Adegoke Ogunsola, has submitted a N5.8 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the council’s legislative arm.

Similarly, the Chairman of Olorunda Local Government, Mr. Mojeed Kudaisi, presented a proposed budget of N6.9 billion for the council’s operations next year.

While presenting the budget, christened “Budget of Prosperity and Autonomy,” Ogunsola explained that funding would come from the federation account, internally generated revenue, and other sources. He emphasized that the budget is designed to finance development projects aimed at improving rural livelihoods and boosting food production.

Ogunsola highlighted key priorities, including:

  • Comprehensive rehabilitation of the Irepodun council secretariat
  • Implementation of a new road maintenance policy
  • Construction of new roads and opening of rural access routes
  • Modernization and expansion of the local marketplace

Leader of the legislative arm, Tajudeen Tajudeen Bakare, assured that the budget proposal would receive careful consideration to address the needs of the community.

Meanwhile, Olorunda Local Government Chairman Kudaisi outlined that the N6.9 billion budget will focus on:

  • Rehabilitation of roads and drainage systems
  • Upgrading primary healthcare centers and schools
  • Youth empowerment and skill acquisition programs
  • Agriculture support initiatives
  • Monthly social welfare and poverty alleviation programs

He urged council members to expedite deliberations to approve a budget that reflects the people’s aspirations. Muhideen Adeosun, leader of the Olorunda legislative arm, reiterated that the budget would be evaluated constructively in the interest of residents.

Similarly, Orolu Local Government Chairman Abolade Nureni presented a 2026 budget proposal of N7.975 billion, prioritizing:

  • Infrastructure renewal
  • Healthcare and education support
  • Environmental sanitation
  • Youth and women empowerment
  • Agriculture and community security
  • Staff welfare and statutory obligations

Nureni emphasized that the council’s focus remains on programs and projects that deliver tangible value and improve citizens’ daily lives.

These chairmen were reinstated by the Appeal Court following disputes with PDP-elected chairpersons, which had previously led to the temporary closure of council secretariats over security concerns.
