In a bid to tackle food insecurity and boost agricultural productivity, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has launched a Joint Agricultural Intervention Project and inaugurated seventeen farm managers, one for each Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The initiative encompasses a range of agricultural activities, including piggery, feed mills, maggot farming, ginger and cassava processing, poultry farms, and pepper farming and processing, among others.
Speaking at the flag-off event in Umuahia, Governor Otti urged the farm managers to approach their duties with commitment, focus, and resilience.
Represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, Otti emphasized that the project marks a new chapter in agricultural development for Abia State.
“Our charge to the farm managers inaugurated today is clear: Abia is stepping into a new era of agricultural intervention in the Southeast.
“We believe this will be a turning point in the agricultural revolution in our state, enhancing food security and improving the economy for our people,” he said.
Governor Otti highlighted that while the project is driven by local governments, it is collaborative with the state government, reflecting a unified approach to addressing food security challenges.
Responding on behalf of the newly appointed farm managers, Mrs. Glory Nwaogbe assured that they would live up to expectations and not disappoint the Abia State government or the people.
