The Oyo State House of Assembly has confirmed Dr. Babatunde Adeniyi as the new Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).
Also approved as members of the commission are Chief Kunmi Agboola, Mr. Olanrewaju Emmanuel, Mr. Sunday Falana, Hon. Remi Ayoade, Mr. Olatunde Theophilus, Mrs. Adebayo Muriana, and Mr. Babatunde Ige.
Their confirmations followed deliberations during Tuesday’s plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin. Lawmakers adopted the recommendations presented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties and Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi, whose report affirmed that all nominees performed satisfactorily during screening.
Speaking with journalists after the confirmation, Dr. Adeniyi expressed appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He assured that once inaugurated, the commission would immediately begin preparations to ensure that the next local government elections comply strictly with electoral laws.
“We are grateful to Governor Oluseyi Makinde for nominating us and to the Speaker and members of the 10th Assembly for confirming our appointments,” he said.
“After our inauguration, we will get to work to ensure that the next election is conducted lawfully and that its integrity is fully protected. The screening process was thorough—we were examined on our backgrounds, education, and professional experience.”
