Pakistan’s Ex-PM Imran Khan Denied Family Visits, Party Raises Health Concerns

ISLAMABAD, Nov. 27, 2025 – The party of Pakistan’s jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan demanded a meeting with him on Thursday, citing concerns over his health after being denied access by family and lawyers for over three weeks.

Khan, serving a 14-year sentence on corruption charges since August 2023, has repeatedly claimed the cases are politically motivated to block his return to politics—a claim the military denies.

Party Demands Access

Zulfikar Bukhari, spokesperson for Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), said no one had seen Khan since November 4. “His health is our concern. We are worried about his illegal isolation,” Bukhari told Reuters, demanding immediate access for family and legal counsel.

Khan’s supporters have protested outside the Rawalpindi jail, and the party plans another visit to press for a meeting. Prison rules typically allow at least one meeting per week, although authorities can suspend access.

Health and Possible Transfer

A jail official, speaking anonymously, said Khan is in good health and that there were no plans to transfer him to another facility, despite local media reports suggesting a possible move to a high-security prison.

Khan, 73, former international cricketer, became Pakistan’s prime minister in 2018 but was ousted in 2022 after falling out with military leaders, who wield significant influence in Pakistan’s politics.

Political Fallout

Khan’s arrest in May 2023 sparked nationwide protests against the military and a crackdown on PTI. His party remains the largest in Pakistan’s 2024 election, claiming electoral manipulation prevented it from forming a government. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his allies deny these allegations.

The situation has also drawn attention on social media, with #WHEREISIMRANKHAN trending on X, reflecting widespread public concern over his isolation.
