Pat Cummins Set to Return for Third Ashes Test Against England

Australia captain Pat Cummins has confirmed he will be “good to go” for the third Ashes Test against England, marking his return after missing the first two matches due to injury. The fast bowler, who is regarded as one of the premier pace bowlers in world cricket, is set to play a key role in the Adelaide clash starting 16 December 2025.

Cummins’ Injury Comeback

Cummins, 32, was sidelined for Australia’s victory in Perth as well as the ongoing day-night match in Brisbane, recovering from a back injury. While there had been speculation about a possible return during the second Test, Cummins and the Australian selectors opted to delay his comeback to ensure full fitness.

Speaking to Fox Sports, Cummins said:
“I’ll have one more bowl tomorrow in the nets and then we’ll go to Adelaide and have a bowl there. Barring any hiccups, I’ll be good to go. The body feels great.”

The decision to postpone his return reflected both a cautious approach to his recovery and consideration for his teammates. Cummins added:
“It felt a bit too acute and didn’t really feel fair on the other bowlers. We thought it didn’t feel like the right Test match to take that risk, so we kicked it down the road for a week.”

Cummins’ Ashes Record and Impact

Since making his Test debut as an 18-year-old in 2011, Pat Cummins has taken 309 wickets in 71 Tests with a career bowling average of 21.19 at the Adelaide Oval. His return is expected to bolster Australia’s fast-bowling attack, especially in the absence of fellow pacer Josh Hazlewood.

During Cummins’ absence, Steve Smith has captained Australia, ensuring continuity in leadership while the team navigated the first two Ashes Tests. With Cummins back in the squad, Australia will regain one of its most lethal strike bowlers for a pivotal match in the series.

Looking Ahead to Adelaide

The third Ashes Test in Adelaide is crucial for both Australia and England as the series progresses. Cummins’ pace, experience, and wicket-taking ability make him a key asset in Australia’s bid to maintain momentum. Fans and analysts alike will be closely watching how his return affects the dynamics of the Australian bowling attack and the outcome of the match.

With Cummins fit and ready, Australia enters the Adelaide Test with renewed confidence, aiming to strengthen their Ashes campaign and keep England on the back foot.
