PDP Convention Properly Constituted, Says Ben Obi

The Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention Organising Committee, Ben Obi, has affirmed that the party’s convention was properly and duly constituted.

Obi made the statement on Tuesday during an interview on ‘Prime Time’, a programme on Arise Television, monitored by DAILY POST. His remarks come shortly after rival factions of the PDP clashed at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

He said:

“It’s unfortunate, but let’s put the record straight. The outgoing National Working Committee (NWC) was an 18-member body. Chairman Umar Damagum had 13 members with him, as opposed to four.

“The National Executive Committee (NEC), at its 102nd meeting on August 25, 2025, informed INEC, which has a mandatory 21 days to be notified of such conventions. INEC acknowledged this.

“As a party manager, I can confirm that INEC, the Nigeria Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) were duly informed and participated.”

Obi’s clarification emphasizes that the PDP followed all required legal and procedural steps for the convention.
