Pensioners Threaten Nationwide Naked Protest Over Unpaid Arrears

The Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria has announced plans for a nationwide naked protest to demand payment of outstanding pension increment arrears and approved palliative allowances.

The coalition’s National Chairman, Mr. Mukaila Ogunbote, who also leads the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NIPOST Chapter), disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

According to Ogunbote, the protest—scheduled for December 8—will go ahead unless the Federal Government pays the ₦32,000 pension increment arrears and the ₦25,000 palliative allowance approved since 2023.

He accused the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation of failing to take pensioners’ demands seriously, urging members across the country to mobilise in large numbers.

The demonstration is expected to take place in Abuja, Lagos, and all other states, targeting offices of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) stations.

Ogunbote encouraged leaders of all affiliated organisations to rally their members, saying:

“We must show the wound that our clothes are covering. This protest will continue until we receive the alerts for the ₦32,000 increment and ₦25,000 palliative for six months. Those who cannot go and return the same day should come with mats.”

He urged all affected pensioners to participate, insisting that collective action is necessary to secure their rights.
