Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the need to pursue “purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and effective service delivery” through a new political platform.
While he did not explicitly name the party in his resignation letter, sources have confirmed that he is set to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mutfwang submitted his resignation letter to the PDP chairman at Ampang West Ward in Mangu Local Government Area. The letter, dated December 29, 2025, was formally acknowledged by the ward leadership on December 30.
In his message, the governor expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him the opportunity to engage in Nigeria’s democratic process and acknowledged the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels:
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the PDP with immediate effect. I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”
Mutfwang had previously indicated his decision to join the ruling party. He is expected to collect his APC membership card today and will be formally received into the party on January 26, 2026, according to APC sources.
