Patna | October 19, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to officially kickstart the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections with a visit to Karpoori Gram in Samastipur on October 24, marking the symbolic beginning of the party’s high-stakes electoral push in the state. The visit holds deep emotional and political resonance, as Karpoori Gram is the birthplace of Jannayak Karpoori Thakur, the former Bihar chief minister and social reformer who was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in January 2024.
The BJP’s state president Dilip Jaiswal announced the details at a press conference on Sunday, confirming that the Prime Minister will pay floral tributes to Thakur before addressing his first rally in Samastipur. “The Prime Minister will begin his campaign by visiting Karpoori Gram to honor Jannayak Karpoori Thakur’s legacy and seek the blessings of the people of Bihar,” Jaiswal said.
The event will be followed by a public rally in Begusarai later in the day, setting the tone for a series of high-profile campaign visits that are expected to galvanize BJP cadres across the state.
Six Campaign Visits Across Bihar
According to the BJP’s official itinerary, Prime Minister Modi will make six visits to Bihar between October 24 and November 7, addressing multiple rallies across key constituencies. Jaiswal confirmed that Modi’s subsequent campaign stops will include rallies in Muzaffarpur and Chapra on October 30, with further visits planned on November 2, 3, 6, and 7.
“The detailed schedule and locations for the later rallies will be announced after final approval from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO),” Jaiswal said. Party insiders revealed that several venues have already been proposed, and logistical arrangements are underway pending formal clearance.
The timing of Modi’s visits is strategically aligned with the two-phase Bihar Assembly polls, scheduled for November 6 and November 11, with results to be declared on November 14. The Prime Minister’s presence in the early and mid-campaign phases is expected to provide momentum for BJP candidates contesting across Bihar’s 243 assembly seats.
Symbolism of Karpoori Thakur’s Legacy
The decision to launch the campaign from Karpoori Gram carries significant symbolic weight. Karpoori Thakur, often referred to as the “Jannayak” or “people’s hero,” is remembered for his advocacy of social justice, reservation for backward classes, and commitment to rural upliftment. His enduring legacy continues to influence Bihar’s political and social discourse.
By paying tribute at Thakur’s birthplace, the BJP aims to reinforce its connection with Bihar’s backward classes and rural electorate—key voting blocs in the upcoming elections. Political observers see this as a calculated move to counter the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), which has historically drawn strength from similar social coalitions.
Star Campaigners and BJP’s Poll Strategy
The BJP has drawn up an expansive campaign roadmap that includes 40 star campaigners, signaling its determination to mount a full-scale political offensive. Alongside Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the list features an array of prominent national and state leaders.
Among the top names are Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and several chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, including Yogi Adityanath (Uttar Pradesh), Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra), Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam), Mohan Yadav (Madhya Pradesh), and Rekha Gupta (Delhi).
Senior Bihar BJP leaders such as Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, State President Dilip Jaiswal, Union Minister Giriraj Singh, and former Union ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Ashwini Kumar Choubey are also part of the campaign lineup.
Other prominent figures on the list include Nityanand Rai, Radha Mohan Singh, Renu Devi, Prem Kumar, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Sanjay Jaiswal, Nand Kishore Yadav, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, and Vinod Tawde.
Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh to Lead Intensive Outreach
According to reports, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to address around 25 rallies across Bihar, focusing on constituencies where the BJP faces tight contests. Similarly, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari will each lead approximately two dozen rallies, complementing Modi’s appearances with region-specific outreach programs.
“The Prime Minister’s rallies will serve as anchor events for our statewide campaign, while senior leaders will ensure extensive ground coverage,” Jaiswal said. “We have prepared a detailed roadmap that ensures maximum visibility and outreach in both phases of polling.”
Party insiders suggest that the BJP’s campaign strategy hinges on a mix of development narratives, identity politics, and local leadership visibility. Modi’s speeches are expected to highlight the central government’s welfare initiatives for Bihar, including infrastructure projects, healthcare programs, and schemes for farmers and women.
Election Dynamics and Opposition Challenges
The Bihar Assembly election, being conducted in two phases, is expected to be a fiercely contested battle between the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the RJD-led opposition bloc. The first phase will see voting in 121 constituencies on November 6, followed by the remaining 122 seats on November 11.
The NDA, comprising the BJP, Janata Dal (United), and several smaller allies, is banking on the Modi government’s welfare record and its promise of political stability. The opposition, on the other hand, is focusing on unemployment, price rise, and alleged governance lapses to mount its challenge.
Bihar’s political landscape has historically been defined by a mix of caste arithmetic, development promises, and leadership charisma. The BJP hopes that Prime Minister Modi’s enduring popularity and his ability to mobilize crowds will help consolidate the NDA’s vote base, especially among the youth and backward communities.
A High-Stakes Campaign for the BJP
The Bihar elections are widely seen as a critical test for the BJP ahead of future state polls and a barometer for national political trends. Having maintained a dominant presence in the state since 2019, the party is now seeking to expand its reach beyond traditional strongholds.
Modi’s six-visit campaign, combined with the deployment of high-profile ministers and chief ministers, underscores the importance the BJP places on retaining Bihar. The party’s leadership believes that the combination of central schemes, Modi’s personal connect, and organizational strength will help it outperform rivals in both phases of polling.
The Road Ahead
As preparations intensify, the BJP’s campaign machinery is already in motion across Bihar. Booth-level committees, social media teams, and youth wings have been mobilized to ensure wide participation at each rally. State units have been tasked with mobilizing local communities in large numbers, with particular attention to rural districts and first-time voters.
With Prime Minister Modi leading the charge from Samastipur on October 24, the BJP aims to project a message of continuity, development, and respect for Bihar’s cultural icons. The homage to Karpoori Thakur serves not only as a political gesture but also as a symbolic reaffirmation of the party’s outreach to marginalized communities and its narrative of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
As Bihar heads into a decisive election season, all eyes will be on the Prime Minister’s speeches and the tone they set for what promises to be one of the most closely watched state contests of the year.
