Police Foil Robbery Attempt in Sagamu, Recover Suspects’ Vehicle

Operatives of the Sakura Division of the Ogun State Police successfully foiled a robbery attempt in Sagamu Local Government Area in the early hours of Wednesday.

Reports says that about five hoodlums tried to forcefully gain entry into a residence in Okearedi, Araromi community before police arrived.

Confirming the incident, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said the command was alerted around 1:45 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of operatives to the scene. On sighting the patrol team, the suspects fled in different directions.

During the operation, the police recovered an operational vehicle, a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT, abandoned at the entrance of the community.

Odutola added, “A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of fireworks, popularly known as knockouts, suspected to have been intended for use as distractions during the robbery attempt.”

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the officers for their timely intervention and professionalism. He emphasized that the command has strengthened its operational strategies by deploying personnel to known flashpoints across the state as part of end-of-year security measures.

Ogunlowo assured residents of sustained police visibility and proactive response, urging them to remain vigilant, especially when entering homes or estates late at night. He also advised illuminating dark or isolated areas to deter criminal activities.
