The Lagos State Police Command has launched an urgent manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who made off with a 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The black luxury SUV, bearing registration WTO 21 AM and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) 4JGFB4FB8SB274117, was stolen at gunpoint around midnight on Saturday at Akin-Olugbade Street. Eyewitnesses reported that four armed robbers forced the driver out of the vehicle before fleeing towards the Ozumba Mbadiwe axis.
According to onlookers, the robbers fired a warning shot into the air to scare away passersby and completed the operation within minutes. The driver sustained minor injuries during the ordeal, while residents described the incident as frightening.
A senior officer from the Victoria Island Division confirmed that joint patrols, surveillance, and intelligence operations are now underway, with all exit routes from Victoria Island under close watch. The stolen vehicle has also been placed on both Lagos State and national security watchlists.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 is a black metallic 2025 model with factory-fitted tinted windows, brown leather interior, LED headlamps, AMG alloy wheels, and a distinctive chrome front grille. Authorities have urged the public, car dealers, and mechanics to report any sightings to the nearest police station or via emergency hotlines 112 and 767.
The robbery has reignited security concerns among residents and business operators in Victoria Island, prompting calls for increased night patrols, functional streetlights, and stronger collaboration between security agencies and private estate guards.
Investigations are ongoing, with the Lagos State Police Command assuring the public that all measures are being taken to recover the vehicle and bring the culprits to justice.
