Former Kano State Governor and Senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, has declared that politics is his religion and that he intends to remain actively involved for life.
Speaking to the press during his 70th birthday celebrations, Shekarau reflected on his life and political journey, expressing gratitude for his health and longevity.
“You may recall that I have always said politics is part of my religion, and with this belief, I see no day I will get out of the political circle,” he said.
He clarified that his continued involvement in politics is not necessarily about contesting for positions but stems from his deep-rooted convictions.
“In this life, I have seen many things, but all thanks to God who has spared my life today to continue in good health and my political journey,” Shekarau added.
“However, you should know that my remaining in politics does not mean I’m contesting any position; my politics is not about contest but is part of my religious beliefs.”
Shekarau also voiced concern over Nigeria’s security situation, calling the slaughter of citizens “unacceptable.” He urged that criminality be reduced to the barest minimum.
On the economy, the former governor emphasized that claims of growth are meaningless if they do not translate into affordable food and improved living conditions for the masses. He advised President Tinubu to focus more on safeguarding lives and property.
