The Premier League has officially announced its revised schedule for the upcoming 2025 Christmas and New Year period, revealing several headline changes that will shake up the traditional holiday football calendar.
Boxing Day Breaks Tradition with Single Fixture
In a move that marks a significant departure from tradition, this year’s Boxing Day (December 26) will feature only one Premier League match. Manchester United will take on Newcastle United in the sole fixture of the day, scheduled for an 8:00 PM GMT kickoff—a match set to capture the full spotlight of post-Christmas football fans.
This format ends the long-standing tradition of a full set of fixtures on Boxing Day, a staple of English football culture.
Revised Holiday Fixture List Announced
The rest of the matchweek will continue across the following days:
- Saturday, December 27
- Sunday, December 28
A new round of fixtures has been scheduled for:
- Tuesday, December 30
- Thursday, January 1, 2026
This ensures Premier League action remains packed across the festive period, with another complete round set to follow on the weekend of January 3, 2026.
Fans, clubs, and broadcasters will now be able to plan ahead as the league balances festive cheer with rest periods for players amid a demanding winter schedule.
