PTAD Enhancing Pension Welfare with Integrity, Innovation

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has marked over a decade of transforming Nigeria’s Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), strengthening pension administration and improving welfare for federal retirees, according to Executive Secretary Tolulope Odunaiya.

Since its establishment in 2014 under the Pension Reform Act, PTAD has delivered key reforms that enhance transparency, accountability, and dignity for retirees of the Civil Service, Police, Customs, Immigration, Prisons, and Parastatals.

Key achievements highlighted by Odunaiya include:

  • Biometric verification and payroll clean-up, eliminating ghost pensioners and saving the government billions.
  • Digitisation of pension records, improving tracking, validation, and complaint resolution.
  • Prompt and consistent monthly pension payments, restoring confidence among retirees.
  • Introduction of the “I Am Alive” digital confirmation platform to verify legitimate pensioners nationwide.

Odunaiya emphasized that PTAD’s efforts have revolutionized a previously fragmented and underfunded pension system, which by 2004 had liabilities exceeding N2 trillion.

She added that PTAD remains committed to transparent, efficient, and compassionate service, strengthened inter-agency collaboration, and expanded outreach, ensuring greater peace of mind and security for retirees across Nigeria.
