Pune Civic Body Election 2026: BJP Sweeps Municipal Corporation, Full List of Winners Across 41 Wards

Pune, January 17, 2026 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delivered a decisive and commanding performance in the 2026 Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections, emerging as the single dominant force in one of Maharashtra’s most politically significant urban bodies. By winning 122 of the 165 seats, the BJP secured an overwhelming majority, effectively consolidating its control over the civic administration of Pune.

The results, declared on Thursday, reflected a broader trend seen across Maharashtra’s municipal corporation elections, where the BJP registered sweeping victories in several key cities. In Pune, the outcome was particularly notable because the party chose to contest the elections independently after seat-sharing negotiations with its ally, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, failed.

BJP’s Solo Strategy Pays Off

Initially, the BJP had explored the possibility of fighting the PMC elections in alliance with the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena. However, differences over seat allocation led the party to go solo. The decision proved to be politically astute, as the BJP not only dominated the polls but also marginalised both its traditional allies and rivals.

The Shinde Sena struggled to make any meaningful impact in Pune and barely managed to open its account across wards. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP), which contested in alliance, also failed to challenge the BJP’s dominance in the city. The Congress, while far behind the BJP, managed to secure 15 seats, emerging as the second-largest party in the civic body.

Pune’s Electoral Structure

The Pune Municipal Corporation is divided into 41 wards, with four corporators elected from each ward, except for one ward that has five members. The elections thus account for a total of 165 seats. The BJP’s victory across a majority of wards highlights its deep organisational reach and voter consolidation in both central Pune and expanding suburban areas.

Below is the full ward-wise list of winners, reflecting party-wise representation across the city:
