Fatehgarh Sahib, Dec 25, 2025: Punjab Police has stepped up security and traffic arrangements for the three-day annual Shaheedi Sabha at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib, deploying over 3,400 police personnel to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the religious congregation.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Thursday reviewed the comprehensive security and traffic management plan ahead of the event, which commemorates the martyrdom (shaheedi) of Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons, Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, and their grandmother Mata Gujri. The congregation began on Thursday and attracts devotees from across India and abroad.
Multi-layered Security Deployment
According to the DGP, the entire area has been divided into six sectors, with security overseen by:
- 6 Superintendent-rank officers
- 24 Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officers
- More than 3,400 police personnel
“Our foremost duty is to ensure the safety, comfort and smooth movement of the sangat,” Yadav said, adding that the police are performing this responsibility as sewa (service) and have been instructed to remain vigilant while maintaining a courteous, people-friendly approach.
Traffic, Parking and Pilgrim Facilitation
To minimise inconvenience to pilgrims, several measures have been implemented:
- A ‘no vehicle’ zone within a 200-metre radius of the gurdwara
- 22 designated parking locations
- E-rickshaw, auto-rickshaw and shuttle bus services to ferry devotees from parking areas to the gurdwara
- Collaboration with Google for real-time geo-tagging of parking spots
- Directional signboards installed at key locations for easier navigation
Surveillance and Emergency Support
For enhanced monitoring and crowd management:
- 6 drones and around 300 high-tech CCTV cameras have been deployed
- Strict vigilance is being maintained to deter anti-social elements
In addition, six integrated help desks offering police assistance, medical aid and fire services have been set up. An integrated control room, public assistance kiosks, special contingency response teams, and 24×7 monitoring through social media, special branch and intelligence inputs are also operational to prevent any untoward incident.
Punjab Police officials said the arrangements aim to ensure that devotees can participate in the Shaheedi Sabha in a safe, orderly and hassle-free manner, while preserving the sanctity and solemnity of the occasion.
