Rajasthan: Two cousins burnt alive, one injured in house fire in Barmer

In a tragic incident in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, two young cousins were burnt alive while another sustained injuries after a fire broke out in a house early Sunday morning. The fire occurred around 5 am in Bhadkha village, leaving the local community in shock.

According to police reports, Devi Lal and his son Jasara Ram (21) had visited his brother Shankar Ram’s house on Saturday night. Their visit coincided with Diwali celebrations, and Jasara slept in the same room with his cousins, Arun (19) and Raju Ram (12). Arun, who worked in a plastic cup manufacturing factory in Mumbai, had returned home for the festival, while Raju was a Class 7 student.

All three were asleep in the same room when the fire erupted. Rescue teams were alerted immediately, but by the time they reached the scene, Arun and Raju had already been burnt alive. Jasara, though injured, was rescued and initially treated at Barmer Hospital before being referred to a hospital in Jodhpur for further care.

Police officials indicated that preliminary findings suggest a short circuit may have triggered the blaze. An FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) team has been summoned to collect evidence and ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

The incident has left families and the village community deeply shaken, highlighting concerns about fire safety and electrical hazards in rural homes. Authorities have launched an investigation to confirm the cause and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

This tragic fire serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of rural households to accidental fires, especially during festive seasons when electrical usage increases.
