Rita Daniels, mother of actress Regina Daniels, has been defeated in the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) presidential election.
The election took place on Saturday during the Guild’s annual general meeting in Benin, Edo State, where Rita Daniels was narrowly beaten by Abubakar Yakubu, the AGN National Secretary, who succeeds Emeka Rollas as President.
Yakubu won with 116 votes, edging out Rita Daniels, who garnered 113 votes, while three ballots were declared void. His victory marks a historic moment, as he becomes the first Northern actor to lead AGN since its establishment in the 1990s.
The election followed comments from former AGN President Emeka Rollas, who had suggested that Rita Daniels focus on her daughter’s welfare instead of pursuing the Guild’s top position.
