Reps panel summons NNPCL GCEO, threatens arrest

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives has summoned the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, to submit all outstanding documents and appear before the committee on Monday, December 15, 2025. The summons relates to audit queries covering NNPCL’s expenditures from January to December 2021.

The directive was issued by PAC Chairman, Hon. Bamidele Salam, during Monday’s sitting in Abuja.

Salam expressed frustration over the company’s repeated failure to attend previous hearings or submit requested documents despite multiple reminders, warning that the committee would no longer tolerate such disregard for its oversight responsibilities.

He also read a letter from NNPCL in which the GCEO cited engagement in another critical assignment at the Presidential Villa as the reason for his absence.

Despite this explanation, PAC members condemned the company’s conduct as disrespectful to the National Assembly and a hindrance to the audit process.

Following an appeal from NNPCL’s National Assembly Liaison Officer, Hon. Umar Faruk, the committee granted a final extension, setting Monday, December 15, 2025, as the absolute deadline for appearance and submission of all outstanding documents.

“We have agreed as a committee to give you up till next week Monday, the 15th of December, for a fresh appearance. Remember, the committee is very busy; we are dealing with so many issues. If you had been here in the last couple of weeks, you would understand the volume of matters before us,” Salam said.

NNPCL is required to respond to multiple audit queries from the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation, including alleged payments to contractors for abandoned projects, failure to remit statutory taxes, and irregular disbursements reportedly approved by the Chief Finance Officer without endorsement from the Group Managing Director.
