Rivers Politics: Modibo Urges Wike to Tone Down Influence

Political analyst Ibrahim Modibo has called on Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to moderate his involvement in Rivers State politics, warning that he is overplaying his hand.

Speaking on Friday in an interview with Arise Television, Modibo emphasized that Wike does not need to exert overwhelming influence over Governor Siminalayi Fubara. He described the ongoing tensions in the state as stemming from a power struggle between two individuals.

“From my observations, the challenges in Rivers State largely revolve around a conflict of power,” Modibo said. “Wike has been a dominant figure in politics, but every time he moves, it seems to stir tension rather than support. He’s overplaying, acting in a way that’s more dramatic than necessary. He should settle down and allow Governor Fubara to govern.”

Modibo further noted that even Wike rose through the ranks with support from others and suggested he extend the same courtesy to the current governor. “Why not let Governor Fubara walk his path and deliver democracy to the people of Rivers State?” he asked.
