The Rivers State Executive Council has approved a N1.8 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year, aimed at driving growth and completing key projects across critical sectors.
The approval came during the State Executive Council meeting held yesterday evening. Prof. Peter Medee, newly appointed Special Adviser to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Economic Matters and Social Development, described the budget as the “Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development.”
According to Medee, the budget prioritizes ongoing and new projects in infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, human capacity development, youth empowerment, culture, tourism, and ICT, while also addressing outstanding obligations. He added that the budget reflects the government’s commitment to recovery, restoration, reassurance, consolidation, and inclusivity, despite challenges confronting the administration.
Dr. Honour Sirawoo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, emphasized that the robust budget is part of Governor Fubara’s strategy to bridge lost ground and position Rivers State for sustainable development.
