Benibo Anabraba, the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In a resignation letter dated January 5, 2026, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Anabraba described the decision as personal while expressing gratitude for the political exposure and opportunities he gained during his time in the party.
“I appreciate the political leverage gained from the party during the period of my membership,” he stated. While he did not publicly disclose his next political move, sources indicate that Anabraba is expected to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His resignation comes amid broader political realignments in Rivers State ahead of future elections. Governor Siminalayi Fubara had previously defected from the PDP to the APC on December 9, 2025, citing the move as a “gesture of reciprocity” for support from President Bola Tinubu. Fubara’s defection followed the exit of 15 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including Speaker Martin Amaewhule, to the APC.
