RNI Empowers Vulnerable Entrepreneurs in Lagos

Refuge Network International (RNI) has reinforced its commitment to supporting marginalised communities through a targeted outreach for small business owners along Victoria Island, Lagos. The initiative focused on the poor, homeless, and petty traders who rely on small-scale businesses for survival.

According to Santabenny, Special Assistant for RNI West Africa, the program aimed to restore hope and provide both immediate relief and long-term empowerment.

“Through this outreach, we brought smiles to many who had lost hope and provided much-needed support to families striving to survive through small businesses. It was a deeply fulfilling mission for both the beneficiaries and the volunteers who made it possible,” he said.

As part of the initiative, 40 beneficiaries received ₦50,000 each to support restocking, business continuity, and urgent financial needs. The RNI team also conducted interactive sessions on financial management, investment awareness, and sustainable business growth to ensure the funds were used effectively.

Ms. Lilian Dikeirem, a leader at RNI, highlighted the organisation’s broader mission:

“At RNI, we believe that empowering local businesses is key to driving economic growth and community development. One of our core missions is to empower the marginalized and alleviate human suffering. Today’s outreach truly brought our mission to life.”

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support. Wale Kayode said the funds would help start her food business, Uduak Innocent promised to grow her enterprise, and Blessing Methombonadesh planned to boost her orange-selling business. Sikira Kazeem, a pap and akara vendor, said the support would help meet increasing customer demand.

RNI noted that continuing initiatives like this would foster lasting positive impact, encourage entrepreneurship, and strengthen local economies.
