Robert Lewandowski Holds Positive Talks with Chicago Fire Over Potential MLS Move

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is reportedly in advanced discussions with MLS side Chicago Fire over a possible summer transfer, as the Polish legend considers his options beyond Europe.

The 37-year-old forward, Poland’s all-time leading goalscorer, is out of contract at Spotify Camp Nou at the end of the 2025–26 season. Chicago Fire have expressed strong interest in securing the former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund star, who has scored 109 goals in 164 appearances for Barcelona, including eight goals in 17 appearances this season.

MLS Move Could Be Next

Sources indicate that Lewandowski is open to moving to MLS, with his wages not expected to be a barrier. While he still has options in Europe, including staying at Barcelona or joining the Saudi Pro League, a switch to the United States is a leading possibility.

Chicago Fire currently hold Lewandowski on their MLS discovery list, giving them priority in negotiations. This prevents any other MLS club from signing him without compensating Fire. Inter Miami, Lionel Messi’s club, have also been linked to Lewandowski, but cannot pursue talks while he remains on Chicago’s list.

The move would represent a strategic acquisition for the Fire, who returned to the MLS playoffs for the first time since 2017. The club has previously attempted high-profile signings, including Neymar and Kevin De Bruyne, demonstrating their ambition to compete at the top level in the league.

Personal and Community Ties

Lewandowski has a strong connection to Chicago, home to the largest Polish community in the United States, and his wife, Anna, recently visited the city while in the States. These ties could play a key role in his decision should he choose to continue his career in America.

Lewandowski’s Stellar Career

The Poland captain has won ten Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, alongside multiple domestic cups. Since joining Barcelona in 2022 on a four-year deal, Lewandowski has added two La Liga titles to his trophy cabinet. His scoring consistency and experience make him one of the most decorated and prolific strikers in modern football.

Chicago Fire view Lewandowski as a potential designated player, capable of transforming their squad and raising the profile of MLS, particularly given his international reputation and connection to the Polish-American community.
