Samklef Accuses Davido of Fueling Toxicity in Nigerian Music Industry

Record producer Samklef has claimed that singer Davido brought toxicity and rivalry to the Nigerian music scene.

The comments came as a response to a tweet by fellow producer-turned-singer Pheelz, who expressed concern about the growing comparisons and competitiveness in the industry.

“Music was meant to be enjoyed, not to be compared. This comparison game is hurting the sound and culture more than we can ever know,” Pheelz wrote.

Reacting, Samklef suggested that the Nigerian music industry was a more respectful and collaborative space when stars like Wizkid and Olamide dominated. He claimed that Davido’s entry brought rivalry, a “cultist mindset,” threats, and streaming fraud.

“Music was fun when we started. When Wizkid came, there was no comparison—everything was pure love. Olamide came too, same thing. No pressure, no hatred, just music. Then one Scorpio boy who moves like Diddy… Davido entered, and since then the industry turned toxic. Cultist mindset, threats, fake streams, dirty moves everywhere,” Samklef wrote.

His remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some criticizing him for singling out Davido as the source of the industry’s challenges.

As of now, Davido has not responded to the allegations.
