Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut announced on Friday that he will be stepping away from public life for the next two months to focus on his health. The 63-year-old leader, known for his vocal and fearless opposition to the BJP-NDA government, said he is undergoing treatment and is confident of a full recovery.
“As per medical advice, I have been instructed to avoid public appearances and gatherings for some time. I regret this deeply. I am confident that I will recover completely and, hopefully, meet you all again in the New Year,” Raut said in a statement on X.
Sources close to Raut revealed that he had undergone two angioplasties in 2019 and 2020, and doctors have advised him to take adequate rest to safeguard his health.
PM Modi Extends Wishes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes for Raut’s recovery. “Praying for your speedy recovery and good health, Sanjay Raut Ji,” PM Modi posted on X, reflecting a gesture of goodwill across party lines.
Political Implications
Raut’s temporary absence comes at a crucial time for Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), which is gearing up for local body elections in the next two months. He had played a key role in reconciling the Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, to present a united front for the civic polls. His absence is expected to be felt within the party as it navigates electoral strategies in his absence.
Despite stepping back from public engagements, Raut expressed confidence in his recovery and hopes to regain full health by the beginning of the new year.
