Energy technology leader Schneider Electric has reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Nigeria, focusing particularly on quality education and promoting decent work and economic growth.
Ajibola Akindele, Country President of Schneider Electric West Africa, highlighted the company’s commitment during the inauguration of a new multimodal centre at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny Island, Rivers State. The facility is designed to address commuting challenges and provide students with easier access to examination resources.
The centre exemplifies Schneider Electric’s proactive approach to addressing critical educational needs in Nigeria while aligning with its SDG commitments.
“At Schneider Electric, we believe every child deserves access to education. What started as a JAMB testing centre has now evolved into a multi-functional facility that not only simplifies examination access but also creates meaningful community opportunities. We are dedicated to leaving a lasting impact,” Akindele stated.
This initiative builds on Schneider Electric’s 25-year legacy of partnership, innovation, and sustainable development in Nigeria. By providing essential testing and training resources, the centre empowers young people in Bonny Island, fostering pathways to education, skills development, and future employment.
Community leaders have praised the initiative for its practical benefits. Se Alabo Abel Adafe Attoni, a local leader, noted, “Traveling from Bonny to Port Harcourt for exams was costly and risky. This centre has eased these burdens and brought peace of mind to families. We are deeply grateful to Schneider Electric for this project and to our king for supporting it.”
Omobolanle Omotayo, Marketing Manager for Schneider Electric West Africa, emphasized how the centre addresses key student challenges: “Students often face roadblocks that can prevent them from progressing academically. This facility provides convenient access to examinations, allowing them to continue their education and reach their full potential.”
Dr. Akos Noel Ibrahim, Acting Rector of the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, described the centre as a catalyst for enhancing the quality of education and training. “With internet access and modern study resources, our students can stay competitive globally. The centre has already attracted partnerships from examination bodies to further strengthen our institution,” he said.
On energy stability, Akindele explained that NLNG largely supplies the facility’s power, with Schneider Electric providing a backup system to ensure uninterrupted electricity.
Schneider Electric continues to demonstrate that innovation extends beyond products, encompassing sustainable, community-focused solutions that create tangible, long-term impact. By electrifying, automating, and digitalizing industries, businesses, and homes, the company enables infrastructure, factories, data centers, and grids to function as interconnected, efficient ecosystems. With 160,000 employees and 1 million partners in over 100 countries, Schneider Electric remains consistently recognized among the world’s most sustainable companies.
