
Former Second Republic senator, Isa Abonyi Obaro, who represented the Okehi/Okene district under the old Kwara State, has passed away.
Obaro, who served in the Senate on the platform of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), represented the then Kwara South, now part of Kogi Central. He was widely regarded as a legal luminary, statesman, and one of the most influential bridge-builders for the Ebira people.
Distinguished Career in Public Service
Before joining politics, Obaro built a notable career in the Federal Civil Service from 1958 to 1960. He later ventured into private legal practice in two phases — 1963 to 1968 and 1975 to 1979.
Between 1968 and 1975, he served as a commissioner in the Kwara State Executive Council, where he earned respect for his dedication to governance, development, and policy reforms.
Legislative Contributions
As a senator in the Second Republic, Obaro served on the Senate Committee on Trade and Industries, contributing to legislative efforts aimed at strengthening industrial development, economic growth, and the welfare of his constituents.
He is remembered for his intellect, humility, and lifelong commitment to the service of his people.
