Senate Confirms Olukayode as PENCOM Chairman, Approves Four National Commissioners

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Agbaje Opeyemi Olukayode (South West) as the new Chairman of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), following his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Alongside Olukayode, four other nominees were also confirmed as National Commissioners of the Commission during Tuesday’s plenary session.

Those confirmed include:

  • Hon. Hafiz Muhammad Kawu Ibrahim, OON – Commissioner (Technical, South West)
  • Samuel Chigizie Uwandu, CPA – Commissioner (Inspectorate, South East)
  • Charles Efe Sylvester Emukowhate – Commissioner (Finance, South South)
  • Bello Abubakar Malabu – Commissioner (Administration, North East)

Senate Committee Endorses Nominations

The confirmations followed the consideration and adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, presented by its Chairman, Senator Oluwole Fasuyi Cyril.

Presenting the report, Cyril explained that the nominees met all constitutional and professional requirements for appointment and were found competent to serve in their respective roles within PENCOM.


Deputy Senate President Commends President Tinubu

After the confirmation, Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, who presided over the plenary, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for nominating “outstanding Nigerians” to lead the pension regulatory body.

“We are confident that they would add value to this agency,” Barau said, noting that the appointments reflect the administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s pension system and protecting workers’ retirement benefits.
