Ajala Adeshina Shuaib, popularly known as Manjala, a blogger with the online platform Kwara Update, has been arrested and remanded at Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, following allegations that he defamed Mallam Tunji Buhari Sulyman, a senior legislative aide to Senator Saliu Mustapha of Kwara Central.
According to a copy of the First Information Report (FIR) dated November 18, 2025, the complaint was filed by I.P.O. Inspector Abiona Emitope and his team. The FIR alleges that on October 14, 2025, Manjala published a Facebook post claiming that Sulyman spent N200,000,000 on his wedding, intending to harm his reputation.
The FIR also stated that Manjala allegedly sent a threatening message to Sulyman, implying he was “coming for him for reasons best known to him.” He was charged under sections 392 and 397 of the Penal Code Law for defamation and criminal intimidation.
The case was brought before a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, which adjourned proceedings to next Tuesday to hear bail applications.
The arrest has sparked concern among journalists and civil rights activists, who warn that such actions could have chilling effects on independent reporting and online journalism in the state.
